because like, those exist, I've seen payment gateways branded by a specific bank and stuff (that wasn't mine). hell I used to work managing a bank's API designs and they were there. are those really that expensive and complicated?

(you never actually getting to know how much do some of its products cost or how does one access them is one of those weird things about working software for a bank. you just build it and someone else will take care of making the money flow)

but its really hard if you are an international thing like steam or itch.io

it works totally fine for local stuff, e.g. student org did some thign like that when we used pretix for some event

because like, otherwise it'd just fetch money from Visa and Mastercard's network and that's it anyway, isn't it? the same way one pays with one's credit card when abroad just fine

@kitten well, the local systems usually only do e.g. german cards, not international ones.
(this specifically isnt using visa/mastercards system, but the german girocard one)

or, its using e.g. sepa direct debit, or bank transfer, but that requires a sepa bank account and/or the ability for users to do transactions (iirk not really a thing for americans for example)
