rant about capitalism@kitten honestly that's why I think that anyone who says "no one would work if it didn't cost money to live" is just flat out wrong
Every single job, no matter how weird or dull I think it is, has someone going "I wish I could do that and live comfortably". Or without worries about money in some way at least.
If only we stopped valuing some people and since jobs more than others... Ugh
rant about capitalism@LunaDragofelis@kitten yeah, honestly... It has to start with figuring out just how much work goes into other people working for other people to work for other people to work.
If you can realize how much work goes into sustaining capitalism, suddenly having few people to transport goods around is not that big an issue, for example
mentions negative stuff@kitten Have you talked with others who are train drivers? Maybe checked it out a bit? Who knows, there may even be a chance to come along in the driver's cab.
I don't know about the ones in your region, but train drivers are still pretty well paid. Sure, not as good as Software Development, but still on the well paid side. And they're always looking for more people. At least here...
Like SBB for example would pay CHF 4545-4914/m salary in your age range during the 15 month training (13 salaries/year here). And then after you're in the CHF 5726-6095/m range. With guaranteed yearly increases, etc.
Oh, also because of the nature of the job you get quite a bit of night/sunday supplements as well to boost the salary a bit...
@kitten it would be nice if it was possible to do a job without committing to it as hard as is required under capitalism.
I would like to drive trains, trams or buses, but also want to do software development or other jobs sometimes. I honestly don't want to be effectively forced to pick just one. (I ended up picking software development)
If people weren't dependent on having a job at all times to not be in poverty, and workplaces didn't need to be picky about hiring because they need to pay for each worker, I think many work relationships would require much less commitment. I could join, let's say, the street cleaners or a restaurant for a day just to try it or because they have a short term staff shortage.
All work would be volunteer work. The resulting goods and services would be distributed by need, without payments.
