Am considering buying a MacBook next year, it would be my 2nd ever.

The first was a disaster, last Intel version, immediately devalued, logic board and/or OS had a USB-C issue, 5 out of the first 6 months it was with Apple for repairs (eventually coming back and I swear the only thing remaining was the case I put a sticker on)... and I'd switched to my gaming machine for work so didn't use it again.

When it came time for work to replace it I got a ThinkPad instead.

So much of my job has since been reduced to living in Chrome and occasionally using MS Word,.. why not just get exceptional battery life and convert to a MacBook?

So...
Is a new architecture coming? Should I avoid?
Is the build quality better than approx 5 years ago?
Is the OS quality better than approx 5 years ago?

I have been burned! I am wary.

@dee if had to go for a laptop right now, I'd try one of those new Snapdragon ones. battery life is 💯, and they have gotten quite cheap.
