why "nach" in the first one and "zum" in the second one?

@kitten "zum" is short for "zu dem"

"Wir gehen zur Tankstelle" -> "zur" is short for "zu der"

"nach" is used for distinct place names. e.g.: "nach München", "nach oben", "nach Karthaus" (my local psych ward nick name)

"zu" is usually used for nouns that refer to a place. e.g.: "zu der Psychiatrie", "zu dem Fessel-Treff", "zu dem Haare-Schneiden"

They all mean some place to go and the place has a noun to describe it

Don't ask me when to use zum or zur for the above examples though, I have no idea xD
