I really like the idea of 2 collars being linked together with a very small chain/rope, with the rope being so short that they're practically forced to make out to be comfortable

and true, for walkies one has to be way more careful and leave quite a bit of room for movement for it to be feasible at all … and have some quick emergency release available.
