self-harm mention so, apparently, in addition to the "no COVID precautions" thing, and the "segregated trans bathrooms" thing, also has a culture of bullying "weird" trans people into killing themselves

fucking lovely

re: self-harm mention @YKantRachelRead someone who follows me debunked the segregated trans bathrooms thing, they literally took part there so they know that didn't happen. just putting that out there because i made a bunch of posts getting mad about it, just to be told that didn't happen >.>

...but even with that said, yeah. those other things still makes me highly suspicious about these conferences, to say the fucking least.

re: self-harm mention @EeveeEuphoria @YKantRachelRead i have never been to c3 (nor would wish to be), but i’ve seen this post: social.treehouse.systems/@ave/115781281468341210 in which there is a banner (which is.. just a piece of paper taped to the wall. might be fake? i mean literally anyone could print that and put it there) that shows there is:
an all-genders bathroom
binary-segregated bathrooms for men/women
an “Agender, trans, inter & non-binary” bathroom (“ATIN*”)

assuming good faith operation of these bathrooms, a, say, trans woman should be able to go to either the all-genders bathroom, the women’s bathroom, or the ATIN* one. still pretty questionable and terminally cisgendered design but also Who Care anyone can still easily pick a bathroom they’d go to, much unlike the common setup where there’s a Man toilets and a Woman toilets.

between c3 being a superspreader event for covid, scabies, etc, the bullying (that has a growing death toll), and the weird bathrooms, i think the bathrooms would be like the last thing i’d look into if at all (unless the bathrooms are worse than the banner implies, in which case drop the “if at all”)

re: self-harm mention @EeveeEuphoria @YKantRachelRead though (assuming the banners weren’t just printed by some random person) one could argue that someone designing bathrooms Like That clearly isn’t listening to what trans people actually want, and so it’s very likely that the bathrooms or the entire event aren’t safe for trans people.

re: self-harm mention @kimapr @EeveeEuphoria that's what gets me about it. apparently there was substantial community outcry about the bathroom situation before the event - and then they went and did it anyway. that fact removes any presumption of innocence in my mind.

re: self-harm mention @YKantRachelRead @kimapr @EeveeEuphoria brefore last year there were half binary half unisex bathrooms, and people complained. last year there were only unisex bathrooms, which people complained about. This year they tried this option, which everyone complained about but at least found hilarious.

What I have learned from being involved in event organising (primarily camping) is that toilets are surprisingly complicated.
