Isn't this a symlink to the host IP address of the device when for example hosting HTTP servers to a local network?

@mateusz6768 kinda, but specifically the IPv4 address only. using [::] instead makes it also compatible with IPv6

@JennyFluff oh

nono, I'm all in for exposing ports to the world. I just want them to bind to [::] instead!

@kitten @JennyFluff any reasonable server OS comes with a firewall that you need to deactivate for a certain port first anyways, and the other option would be adding an extra non-optional configuration option for the IP to bind to, since you're not specifying the wildcard as default. either way you have to change your config, but for the former it's just a port number rather than hardcoding your IP that might not even be static. and finally [::] even works for both ipv6 AND ipv4 whereas 0.0.0.0 is ipv4-only, and thus irrelevant to modern systems :)

@kitten @JennyFluff neither: they should bind to whatever getaddrinfo says /hj
