GNU Nettle is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms contained in the files COPYING* (see the manual for information on how these licenses apply).Don't you think the licensing situation might be a little too complicated if you need to refer to the manual?
Actually the note in the manual is pretty simple to understand and only marginally longer, I'm baffled they didn't just include it in the README.
