All of the euro banknote design proposals are terrible in their own way

Also, one of the ‘buildings of the European Union institution’ proposals has the names of the institutions … in English, as if countries like France would ever accept that

but none of the proposals featuring famous Europeans have the names of the Europeans on them, despite that being
relatively easy and linguistically neutral because, well, they’re names

If you wondered, the individuals chosen are the same on all of the possible designs:

€5: Maria Callas, American (!) opera singer with Greek parents
€10: Ludwig van Beethoven, German composer
€20: Marie Curie, physicist and chemist born in Poland, naturalized French
€50: Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Spanish novelist and playwright
€100: Leonardo da Vinci, Italian humanist
€200: Bertha von Suttner, Austrian activist

@dpk in a way I could see a certain positive message there. she lived mostly in Europe, so she's european, and did great things during that, so she gets to represent its culture, regardless of birthplace

however, it definitely wouldn't be that way if she hadn't had Greek parents
