I know a bunch of disabled and chronically ill folks whose quality of life would be drastically reduced without access to air conditioning. including my wife.

this is just another one of those conversations where abled people forget that disabled people exist

@YKantRachelRead it's... a weird mess I think?

German greens insist on "passive cooling" solutions

German far-right are cool with a/c but deeply despise heat pumps... for some reason

@YKantRachelRead I couldn't really understand it much when it was explained to me either, other than "okay so this is the random nonsense topic that people over there have decided to have very strong opinions about I guess"

@kitten @YKantRachelRead There's also the odd (but unpolitical) fear many, especially older, Germans have that a little wind indoors will make them sick. Not inherently connected to air conditioning, but also applies to wind it causes. Classic sentence: "Mach's Fenster zu, es zieht!" ("Close the window, there's a draft!") neocat_laugh_sweat

@kitten @YKantRachelRead The heat pump thing is mostly because the way most people became aware of heat pumps is talking about them as a way to reduce CO2 emissions from heating (because they are more efficient than "burn oil/gas" and run on electricity which can come from clean sources). And (not only far) right people tend to hate anything associated with reducing CO2 emissions/acting against climate change. It's like "woke" in the US. They don't understand what it means, but they hate it. I suspect if the same people had learned about heat pumps as a "reduce your heating bill" thing they'd love them.
