Spanish old politics, 11M I'm realizing how this seems to really be disinformed outside Spain

the March 11th terror attacks in Madrid's trains weren't executed by ETA. ETA had nothing to do with it, it was al-Qaeda, as retaliation for the Spanish support to the war in Iraq

claiming ETA's authorship was a right-wing electoral conspiracy. general elections were going to be held a bunch of days after. there's papers and testimonies, they concluded "if ETA did it, we win the election, if jihadists did it, we might lose". and so, they decided to push that narrative, even though everything at that point already pointed at it not being ETA

fortunately everything got uncovered the following days, and everyone got
really pissed off. even right-leaning people. demonstrations were spontaneously held via SMS chains. they lost in an incredible landslide (see picture).

and because of that, these days claiming that "11M was ETA" is essentially a right-wing dogwhistle, some claim it was a successful false flag attack in order to overturn the results of the election

Spanish old politics, 11M this being not that generally known abroad is making me think if it also would make people understand less things like, for example, Spain's response to Iran's war, and its refusal to have anything to do with it. because yes, there's many more significant factors, but still to this day, here you discuss that stuff with your parents or so, and they all mention that.

Aznar's summit in the Azores is infamous for that
