good ways in which train stations can be like airports:
- big
- good flow management
- many shops
- waiting areas
- good connecting transportation

bad ways in which train stations can be like airports:
- useless security checks
- hard to navigate corridors
- boarding gates
- far away from the city
- car-centric entrances

certain rail infra manager looked at this and said "let's build train stations with the bad things from airports!"

@aroma i have never been on trains in either, but it feels like they are competing to make the most annoying high speed train stations for their networks

@artemist Chinese paranoia aside, they are at least quite efficient with their security checks and they do flow management quite well

unfortunately the same cannot be said of Spain. they don't check the x-rays (security theater) and flow management is, let's just say, a chance for them to improve

@aroma @artemist A big mistake in the Spanish stations is I think is not having separate queues by departure. Eurostar does this and it makes total sense not to have people whose train leaves in 90 minutes sitting in the secured lounge when they could be outside.

nothing in this post should be construed as an endorsement of luggage checks at railway stations

@seabass @aroma @artemist in Barcelona Sants they do not let people whose train departs in more than 60 minutes in

they started doing so because, right now, the bottleneck for long distance trains in that station is that. where to put people waiting for their train
