sometimes I wonder if I should look for a different job other than computers

I'm good at them and I do like them a lot. but does that actually make it the best job for me?

I like mechanics and engines, that could be something

I like trains too

still thinking about this

I've never had a more "repetitive" work, as in, I've always been in software and it always involved building "new" stuff, rather than just having a specific task to be performed again and again, or just fixing stuff that already exists, without having to actually add anything new to it

I wonder how would I do at that

@kitten I've done bar tending a bunch of times and at least behind a (very) busy bar it's very fun but I think if it was my actual every day job I'd find it intellectually unstimulating

@erincandescent oh there's no chance in the world I'm working on the hospitality industry, at least here in Spain. there's not a single place that doesn't rely on worker exploitation, and most are just barely a viable business anyway

@kitten I've done it at festivals (mostly hacker camps tbh) and like it's just continuous motion and (when busy) triage

@kitten it mostly functions as an example of repetitive work imo

@erincandescent @kitten Yeah done it for a bit (high-school cafeteria and then some local events), it's pretty fun, but I don't think I would do this on a regular basis either.
Except maybe if the routers dies or something. ^^

@lanodan @kitten the other day I basically spent half an hour with the beer tap close to running full time, that was fun

(There were ~three people in front of me selling & serving and lots of orders for 3/4/5 cups coming in so they were going out at a rate)

@erincandescent @kitten Also sometimes fun to have a bit of a chat, although you can end up being a trapped audience if they constantly talk to you.
