train discourse I must say at this point I'm afraid I feel ready to say:

dutch people, your trains are just uncomfortable, at least the ICs, in some very specific ways.

train discourse three main points:
- what the hell are those doors for the seating areas??? like, you really couldn't find a more inconvenient design, could you?
- the stairs to access the upper/lower level are just too uncomfortable for some reason. probably lack of space, specially on the part before that awful door. this is something I haven't felt with french TGVs
- where's the luggage space? or at least a shelf to place one's backpack? am I missing something?

train discourse @kitten in the areas where seats face each other, there is quite a bit of room between the backs of the seats, that’s probably the largest convenient storage space

train discourse @kitten @lis lol, my first reaction seeing this picture was "wait, our trains don't have red seats"... and then I remembered that "first class" still exists.

It's a scam, and a stain on our transport system, especially when they keep making drama about a "shortage of rolling stock". We don't lack rolling stock! They're just running empty cars, while packing everyone into the effectively identical "second class" sections.

(I also agree with the other points you raised)

re: train discourse @lunarood @lis yeah but in my case it was basically like just 40€ extra in my Interrail pass, and I got to see how it is, plus potentially more seat reservations available

re: train discourse @kitten @lis oh yeah, no, my criticism was not at all directed at you for using first class. It can make sense sometimes (especially as part of a package), and you do avoid the crowdedness. My issue is rather with how NS manages their rail service.
