getting there in one day it's not really viable, I would arrive too late (and I wanted to camp, so I also have to consider setting-up tent time)

the options seem to be either my usual night train the day before from Toulouse and getting there with plenty of time during the 6th, or spending a night in an hotel somewhere southeast France

mx @kitten, a potential option with Interrail, although being a bit slower, is to take the AVE up to Lyon, make it to Basel using local trains, and then take an ICE or night train to the Netherlands from there. this one has done this route a few times and generally can recommend it over the TGV + Eurostar approach.

@1 hm, it's not a bad idea, and I've done it in the past to get to Aachen... on the other hand, arriving so early would not have much of a point, since the event doesn't start until 18h

(but yeah, I'm also kinda trying to avoid Eurostar. to avoid Paris in general.)
